On the BBC this morning they were talking about electric cars and their costs and practicality. The electric version of the Nissan Leaf is about £12,000 more than its traditional engined version and has a range of about 100 miles between re-charges.

For £12,000 (ignoring interest etc.) we could buy enough diesel to do over 110,000 miles in our current car and it's range between "recharges" is about 750 miles ( and a recharge takes less than 3 minutes and can be done in a lot of places). Our current car cost under £1000 second hand.

A car with a 100 mile range would mean we couldn't get to our boat moorings without a recharge (and another one on the way back) and we'd need two  (four for the round trip) to get home to visit my parents.
Of course people will say " Well you use the Leaf for commuting and you have a second car to do long trips" . Financially an electric car will never make sense for a lot of people and that includes us.

Why do people that I don't know, and who seem to do nothing but post spam plugging the company they work for, decide to add me to their circles? I assume its is some sad attempt to build their audience and expose more people to their company….

Doesn't work as far as I'm concerned.

Well after a lot of pain which involved removing parts of the door to work out if the new speakers would actually fit without me attacking things with a saw the new speakers are fitted.

The old ones are pretty much scrap.:

New speakers for the car bought – hopefully the rain will stay away long enough for me to swap them over during the weekend – assuming I have the right sized spade terminals to make the connections.

Spent a bit of time working on protecting my WordPress site against the brute force password attack bots that are still out there. Will see how it works over the weekend but it was looking good this morning.

Its all a bit of a disaster when your server wont mount a disk due to a corrupt superblock and to fix it you need to enter the root password. A password you set when you created the server 4 years ago and can no longer remember!
